Tauroa is a stunning coffee table handmade with careful attention to detail encapsulating a wild yet beautiful stretch of New Zealand coastline.
Tauroa (‘reef’ in English) is the name given to the peninsula at the southernmost end of 90 mile beach. This area is rugged and sparsely populated, with the small town of Ahipara several kilometres away.
This coffee table is the first in our ‘ocean series’.
When planning how best to bring this piece to life, it soon became apparent that there was a remarkable likeness to the 90 mile beach area and we knew this was the perfect opportunity to allow someone to see this incredible part of New Zealand every day.
Detail is everything - over many hours the wood was carefully prepared before the resin was built up in gradual layers, each one bringing life to the timber. Intricate details such as swirling waves and ripples of current were embedded amongst our favourite feature of all - the native New Zealand Paua shells which have been cut to the shape of stingrays - a popular sight along this coast.
